KATHMANDU:The Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench has been reconstituted after nearly two months of inactivity.
Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut personally selected judges for the bench, breaking with the traditional seniority-based system.
The bench had been stalled due to disagreements over its formation.Previously, judges were appointed strictly by seniority, but differences between the Chief Justice and other judges had delayed hearings.
Some senior justices, including Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, had opposed the change. Fifteen cases are scheduled this week. Full hearings are set for Wednesday, while preliminary hearings for newly registered cases will be held on Friday.
The Constitutional Bench handles disputes between federal units, constitutional interpretation, conflicts between laws and the constitution, and election-related cases.
It also addresses matters involving serious constitutional questions.
