Nepal ‘A’ loses first T20 match against Assam

KATHMANDU: Nepal ‘A’ suffered defeat in the opening match of the T20 series against Assam.

In the match played on Thursday in Guwahati, Nepal ‘A’ lost to Assam by 15 runs under the Duckworth–Lewis (DLS) method.

Chasing a target of 191 runs set by Assam, Nepal had scored 64 runs for the loss of three wickets in eight overs when rain interrupted play. With no possibility of resumption, Assam were declared winners as per DLS rules.

Before the interruption, Subhash Khakurel scored 33 runs while Sandeep Jora remained on 2 runs.

Captain Anil Kumar Sah made 20, Pawan Sarraf 6, and Ishan Pandey 1.

Assam bowlers Marimoy Dutta and Akash Sengupta picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, put into bat first after losing the toss, Assam scored 190 runs for eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Sumit Ghadigaonkar top-scored with 34, followed by Abhinav Chaudhary (26), Akash Sengupta (24), Rohit Sen (24), Sumit Kashyap (22), Sahil Jain (17), and both Abhilash Gogoi and Ayushman Malakar with 13 each.

For Nepal, Aakash Chand claimed three wickets, while Sagar Dhakal and Vivek Kumar Yadav took two apiece, and Adil Alam Ansari added one.

With this result, Nepal trail 1-0 in the five-match series.

The second match will be played on Friday.
