KATHMANDU: The Nepal Police has said there is no legal provision making the traffic police eligible to receive special allowance or benefits for charging fines for traffic violation.
Issuing a press statement today, the Nepal Police has made it clear that the entire revenue from the traffic fines is directly deposited in the government’s account.
Stating that news reports lacking facts and official verification negatively affects the image of public institutions, eroding public trust in such organisations and making administrative processes unnecessarily controversial.
“There is no legal provision for traffic police to be entitled to any additional fees (benefits) for collecting fines from the violations of traffic rules,” the statement reads.
The police have urged media and social sites users to verify any information through official channels before disseminating it from the respective media or from the social platforms.
