KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed deep sorrow over the extensive damage to public property during the Gen-Z movement and emphasized that the country’s political solution must be sought within the framework of the Constitution.

In a statement, she noted that the country was shaken by the Monday protests, in which police gunfire resulted in the deaths of 19 young people, followed by nationwide incidents of violence, arson, vandalism, looting, and beatings.

Paying tribute to all the 34 people who have died so far and wishing speedy recovery to thousands injured in the unrest, she urged the government to ensure free and effective medical treatment for the wounded.

Bhandari highlighted that democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and civil liberties are fundamental pillars of the modern political system.

She called on everyone to guide the new generation’s commitment to building a future characterized by good governance and transparency in the right direction.
