KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court will resume operations from Sunday (September 14).
An emergency full meeting of the court held on Thursday decided to begin the registration and regular hearings of habeas corpus petitions.
In a press release issued by Chief Justice Prakamansingh Raut, it stated, “Accordingly, from Sunday, (September 14, 2025), the registration and regular hearing of habeas corpus petitions will commence at this court, as per the decision of today’s emergency full meeting of the Supreme Court.”
The statement also mentioned that despite the destruction of important documents of Nepal’s judicial history in the recent arson attack, the court remains committed to fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
“The important documents of Nepal’s judicial history have been almost destroyed,” the Supreme Court said.
“Even in this dire situation, the judiciary of Nepal reaffirms its duty entrusted by the Constitution, respecting the sovereignty of the people, constitutionalism, rule of law, fundamental rights, and the citizens’ inviolable right to justice. Regardless of circumstances, the judiciary stands firm and unwavering in the path of justice and is committed to resuming court functions at the earliest to meet public expectations for justice,” reads the statement.
