KATHMANDU: Shankar Pokharel, General Secretary of CPN-UML, visited the party office for the first time following the destruction caused during the Gen Z protests last Monday and Tuesday.
On Monday afternoon, he arrived at the party office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, appealing to party workers to begin the reconstruction of offices damaged across the country.
After inspecting the central office damaged during the protests, General Secretary Pokharel instructed party members to coordinate with government authorities and contribute to rebuilding public structures as well.
Pokharel also directed UML members to commemorate Constitution Day on September 19 “from the very ashes” of the damaged property.
“The Constitution Day we gained after a long struggle in 2015 falls on September 19. We will celebrate this day from the ashes, and all districts will conduct the program. In the Kathmandu Valley, it will be held in the premises of the party’s central office,” he said.
He emphasized that lasting achievements should be institutionalized in the Constitution rather than relying solely on street actions.
Pokharel added that the UML would support the current government’s steps to curb corruption and promote good governance.
He also expressed confidence that the interim government’s main responsibilities are to ensure security and conduct elections on time.
“We believe that all democratic parties in Nepal have entered a process of engaging with the public and seeking their mandate,” Pokharel stated.
