KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has urged that elections to the House of Representatives be held within six months.

He noted that after no alternative was found to form a government from the House, a broad consensus offered the nation a way out of the political deadlock.

Speaking at a special ceremony at the Office of the President on the occasion of Constitution Day (National Day) 2025, President Paudel emphasized unity and cooperation among political parties, state institutions, intellectuals, and citizens to ensure the success of the upcoming elections.

“The Constitution has given Nepali people sovereignty and freedom. It ensures equal rights to all people, regardless of caste, religion, or community. It provides us with opportunities to progress through coordination and harmony,” Paudel said, adding that Nepal has become stronger and more sovereign in its constitutional history.

The President recalled that he joined politics at the young age of 17 in 1960 to fight for democracy, stressing his firm belief that democracy is strengthened by the participation of every generation.

Reflecting on the political void and challenges that emerged after September 9, Paudel said the situation was managed through collective wisdom and cooperation.

He urged all citizens to pledge on Constitution Day to remain committed to democracy, prioritize citizens, uphold good governance, and guide politics and governance with morality, integrity, and values.
