KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel observed the Phulpati feu de joie ceremony–2082 organized at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, today.
At the ceremony, the Nepalese Army offered an honour guard to President Paudel, the Supreme Commander of the Nepali Army.
On the occasion, a contingent of the Army opened celebratory volley and individual gunfire as well as canon fire.
At the ceremony, a military parade was displayed, along with the Durga dance. The army showcased the ‘Phulpati Procession–2082’ banner and showered flower petals using helicopter and drones. A hymn in praise of goddess Durga was also presented.
The ceremony was attended by Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal, ministers, distinguished personalities, and heads and representatives of diplomatic missions.
The Phulpati feu de joie is considered a distinct and unique event in continuation of religion, culture and tradition.
The Nepali Army has a tradition of celebrating Phulpati amidst the feu de joie at the army pavilion on the seventh day of the 15-day-long Bada Dashain festival, the biggest festival of the Nepalis, every year.
There is a tradition of observing the Phulpati feu de joie at Tundikhel the moment the ‘jamara’ and ‘phulpati’ brought from Gorkha is anointed at local Hanumandhoka Dashainghar at the set auspicious hour.
The general public had gathered in large numbers around Tundikhel to watch the military parade and the Phulpati feu de joie. Media outlets, including Nepal Television, broadcast the Phulpati celebration event live.
