EAST JAVA: At least 91 people remain trapped after the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia, authorities confirmed.

The National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) said on Tuesday evening that six people are still alive beneath the debris and in contact with rescuers.

Food and water have been delivered through gaps in the rubble. The collapse occurred on Monday afternoon while students, mostly teenage boys, and staff were attending prayers.

So far, three deaths have been confirmed and nearly 100 people injured. Of those, 70 have been discharged from hospital, while 26 remain under treatment.

More than 300 rescue workers from BNPB, the military, and police are on-site. Authorities are digging manually to avoid further collapse, though heavy machinery may be used later to recover victims.

Officials said the school’s structural pillars failed during unauthorized construction on an upper floor, triggering the disaster.

“If the assessment concludes there are no more survivors, the next phase will involve heavy equipment to recover the deceased,” BNPB said.
