JANAKPURDHAM: Madhes Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh is set to seek a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly today.

According to a letter issued by the Madhes Province Assembly Secretariat in Janakpurdham, the process of a confidence motion has been initiated in accordance with Article 188 (2) of the Constitution and Rule 143 (4) of the Provincial Assembly Regulation, 2018.

Chief Minister Singh had written to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat last Friday requesting arrangements to obtain a vote of confidence.

Following this, the Secretariat announced on Saturday that a meeting of the Provincial Assembly would be held at 1 PM on Tuesday for the purpose of the vote.

Previously, Chief Minister Singh’s government was supported by the CPN (UML), Nepali Congress, and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP).

However, after Singh announced his resignation on Facebook during the Gen Z movement on September 8–9, his party, Janamat, withdrew him from the post and instructed him to return to the party.

Singh did not comply, leading to a gradual withdrawal of support from coalition partners.

The UML and Congress had already pulled their support, and on Sunday, the LSP also withdrew its backing.

Congress leaders said they could no longer support Singh after his own party abandoned him.

The UML had earlier urged him to resign, but when he refused, it formally withdrew support last Wednesday.

On the same day, Janamat, Congress, and UML jointly submitted a claim to the Province Chief’s Office to form a new government under Congress leadership.

The Madhes Provincial Assembly currently has 107 members from ten political parties.

The CPN (UML) holds 25 seats, Nepali Congress 22, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) 19, Janamat Party 13, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party and CPN (Unified Socialist) nine each, while Nepal Sanghiya Samajwadi Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party each have one representative.
