HONG KONG: A cargo aircraft arriving at Hong Kong International Airport skidded off the runway early Monday and plunged into the sea, according to local reports.
Two members of the airport’s ground staff were killed after their vehicle collided with the aircraft and fell into the water, local media said.
The Emirates flight EK9788 — a Boeing 747-481 operated by Turkish cargo carrier Air ACT — had been arriving from Dubai at around 3:50 a.m. local time (19:50 GMT).
All four crew members aboard the plane survived the crash, officials confirmed. Airport authorities are expected to hold a press conference at 10:00 a.m. local time (02:00 GMT) to provide further details.
This marks only the second fatal incident at Hong Kong International Airport since it began operations in 1998.
