KATHMANDU: Education, Science, and Technology Minister Mahabir Pun has stated that the ministry will take appropriate action based on the recommendations received from the investigation committee on Tribhuvan University’s land.

Speaking at a press conference today after assuming responsibility for the ministry, he said that some issues highlighted by the committee will be referred to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) for implementation.

“Tribhuvan University has been illegally occupying land and deriving unlawful benefits from it for many years. Based on the committee’s report, the ministry will take suitable action. Matters that cannot be resolved internally will be sent to the CIAA for further investigation,” Minister Poon said.

Highlighting that the investigation committee’s report on TU land is incomplete, he added that further in-depth investigation is necessary.

He also mentioned that preparations are underway to form a new investigation committee based on the recommendations of the previous one.

Minister Pun further informed that complaints have been received regarding large-scale land encroachment at Sudurpaschim University, and a committee will be formed to investigate those claims as well.

Additionally, he announced that in line with recent technological advancements, a 100-mark ‘Computer’ subject will be introduced up to the secondary level to ensure that students do not fall behind in digital skills.
