KATHMANDU: On the occasion of this year’s Tihar festival, Nepal recorded a peak electricity demand of 1,650 megawatts during Laxmi Puja.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the country’s total power demand peaked at 1,650 MW at 6:50 PM on Monday evening.
Last year, on the same day, the peak demand had reached 1,602 MW, showing an increase of 48 MW this year.
The NEA reported that the entire domestic demand was met through power generated within Nepal itself during the festival.
After fulfilling domestic needs, Nepal exported 1,015 MW of electricity to India during peak hours, compared to only 253 MW exported during the same period last year.
