GENEVA: Chairman of the National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal, who is currently in Geneva to participate in the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held bilateral meetings with parliamentary delegations from several countries.

During the assembly, Chair Dahal met separately with parliamentary delegations from the United Kingdom, the People’s Republic of China, and Sri Lanka.

The meetings were held with the Chinese parliamentary delegation led by Xueijun Tian, who also chairs the IPU’s Asia-Pacific Group; the British delegation led by Fabian Hamilton; and the Sri Lankan delegation headed by Sunil Watagala.

Discussions in all meetings centered on strengthening mutual relations, exchanging parliamentary experiences through parliamentary friendship groups, and promoting cooperation and collaboration at international forums.

Chairman Dahal briefed the delegations about Nepal’s recent Gen Z Movement, the resulting new political context that led to the formation of an interim government, and the announcement of upcoming elections.

He reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to conducting elections on schedule to further consolidate democracy.

He also requested friendly nations to support the reconstruction of structures damaged during the recent movement and to assist Nepal in ensuring free and fair elections.

Highlighting the direct impacts of climate change faced by the Nepali people, Chairman Dahal emphasized the need for the global community to extend greater support to developing nations in addressing the challenges posed by the climate crisis.
