KATHMANDU: Today is Bhaitika, the main day of Tihar festival. On this day, sisters traditionally apply a seven-colored Tika on the foreheads of their brothers with devotion, faith, and sincerity, wishing them a long life, good health, and prosperity.
After the sisters apply the Tika, the brothers also apply Tika to their sisters and give them gifts and money (Dakshina).
As is customary, there is a large crowd of people receiving Tika at the Balgopaleshwar Temple in Ranipokhari, which opens only on the day of Bhaitika.
Those who do not have sisters, in particular, visit the Balgopaleshwar Temple to worship and receive the Tika.
