MUSTANG: The road in the Marpha–Chhairo–Chimang area, part of the Gharapachhong Rural Municipality, is slated for an upgrade.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of Gandaki Province has allocated a budget of 10 million rupees for the enhancement of the Marpha–Chhairo–Chimang road section for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS.

The Infrastructure Development Office of Mustang has indicated that the road linking the Chhairo and Chimang villages, which has been neglected beyond Marpha along the 76 km Beni–Jomsom road, is under consideration for approval as part of a multi-year plan that includes further improvements and blacktopping where necessary.

Ajay Kumar Shrestha, Chief of the Infrastructure Development Office of Mustang, revealed that the Marpha–Chhairo Bridge over the Kaligandaki River to Chimang road could be developed as a multi-year initiative, focusing on upgrading the earthen road and paving essential sections. Consequently, immediate upgrades to the Chhairo–Chimang road have not yet been executed.

“We have currently paused road implementation here, and if directed as a multi-year programme, the office will move forward accordingly,” he stated.
