Indian Ambassador Srivastava holds courtesy meeting with Communications Minister Kharel

KATHMANDU: Naveen Srivastava, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel at the ministry in Singha Durbar.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the historical bilateral relationship between Nepal and India, ongoing cooperation, and the current priorities of the Government of Nepal.

Minister Kharel appreciated India’s support for various development projects in Nepal over the years and highlighted the economic, technical, and goodwill assistance India has provided, contributing to Nepal’s social and political development.

He also briefed the Ambassador on Nepal’s current priorities, including ensuring free and fair elections, controlling corruption, and promoting good governance.

As government spokesperson, Minister Kharel informed that the government has been engaging in formal dialogues with political parties and Gen Z representatives to create a conducive environment for the upcoming elections.

On Wednesday, the first formal tripartite meeting between the government, political parties, and Gen Z representatives was held, and all parties expressed positive commitments for the elections.

Ambassador Srivastava congratulated Minister Kharel and reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Nepal as a good neighbor, promising assistance according to Nepal’s requirements.

He further expressed India’s willingness to enhance financial and technical cooperation in priority areas for Nepal’s economic transformation and prosperity.

Officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present during the meeting.
