KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a charge sheet at the Special Court in Kathmandu against former Ilam Division Forest Officer and current Bhojpur officer Dan Bahadur Shrestha, accusing him of amassing property disproportionate to his legal income.

According to the CIAA, between July 10, 1991, and February 28, 2024, Shrestha accumulated unexplained property worth Rs 14.3 million, exceeding his verified income and family expenses.

The investigation found that his reported earnings from salary, allowances, land sales, interest, shares, and agriculture were far less than the assets he owned.

The CIAA concluded that Shrestha abused his authority to gain illegal wealth and filed a case under the Corruption Prevention Act, 2002, seeking imprisonment, fines, and recovery of the illicit property.

It also sought confiscation of assets registered under his wife Naramaya Shrestha, daughter-in-law Bhawana Baruwal, and Forest and Environment Research Organization Pvt. Ltd., where Baruwal is a director.

Shrestha is additionally accused of submitting false property declarations under Section 16(2) of the same Act.
The charge sheet was filed today, demanding confiscation and recovery of the illegally acquired assets.
