HETAUDA: In a major administrative restructuring coinciding with the new fiscal year 2026/27, the Bagmati Province Government has slashed its number of ministries from 14 down to eight.
Following a cabinet decision from May, Province Head Deepak Prasad Devkota reshuffled and streamlined the portfolios upon the recommendation of Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya, pursuant to Article 168 (9) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Under the newly consolidated structure, Chief Minister Baniya will oversee the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, while merged portfolios like Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment have been assigned to Madhusudan Paudel, Internal Affairs to Shivaraj Adhikari, and Health to Kanchan Chandra Wade.
Other ministries—including Physical Infrastructure, Economic Affairs, Water Supply, and Industry—have been distributed among Dinesh Chandra Devkota, Prabhat Tamang, Krishna Kumar Tamang and Bindu Shrestha respectively.
Additionally, six other lawmakers—Kiran Thapa Magar, Urmila Nepal, Bharat Bahadur KC, Suresh Shrestha, Jayaram Thapa, and Binu Rayamajhi Paudel—have been inducted into the cabinet as ministers without portfolio.
