KATHMANDU: In a fresh show of internal division within the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), General Secretary Dhawal Shamsher Rana has convened a separate gathering of his close office-bearers and central committee members.

The meeting, scheduled for this afternoon at Nepal House in Baluwatar, aims to mount pressure on party Chairman Rajendra Lingden to hold the party’s General Convention by December.

The Rana faction, citing the political climate that emerged after the recent Gen Z protests, has been demanding that the RPP convene its General Convention by December 3 and undertake a comprehensive party restructuring.

However, Chair Lingden has stated that district and provincial conventions are already planned through December, making it impossible to hold the central convention before that time.

The RPP’s Central Committee, which has not met since February, is finally set to convene on November 13–14.

As the meeting date approaches, the Rana faction has intensified its internal mobilization, preparing to push a formal resolution to ensure the General Convention takes place within December.

The tensions have deepened after Lingden took disciplinary action against leaders close to Rana, prompting sharp criticism from the General Secretary.

Rana, who is expected to run for party Chairman in the upcoming convention, has increasingly positioned himself as the face of the opposition within the RPP’s top leadership.
