KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Ram Kumari Jhakri has announced that her political journey with the party has come to an end.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Jhakri said the party will officially dissolve at 1 p.m. today, marking the conclusion of her involvement.

“My chapter with the party is over. This is the current stage of our political journey,” Jhakri said. She remarked that following the Gen Z movement, major political parties in Nepal have come under public scrutiny.

Jhakri emphasized that political parties must take responsibility for protecting democracy and ensuring peace and security in the country.

Criticizing past party mergers, she argued that the unity between UML and Maoist Centre, which created the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), had already ended internal democracy.

According to her, the ongoing merger between Maoist Centre, Unified Socialist, and seven other leftist groups will further erode democratic values.

The unified party, to be named the Nepali Communist Party, will be announced later today. Jhakri and other leaders who are not joining the merger are preparing to return to CPN (UML).
