SIMKOT: Expansion and land acquisition for Simkot Airport have stalled as the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal remains unapproved, despite a Rs 279.40 million budget allocation.

The Simkot CAAN branch had nearly completed land acquisition for 60.81 ropani, including nine buildings, and was ready to issue public notices.

Approval of the DPR is now the key remaining step before work can continue.

After expansion, the airport runway will extend to 950 meters, allowing 29- and 45-seat aircraft to land, boosting tourism in Humla and serving as the main entry point for Mount Kailash pilgrims.
