KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has seen a surge in new political parties registering for the upcoming House of Representatives election, largely catalyzed by the recent Gen Z protest.
As of November 16, at least 123 parties have received registration certificates. Approximately 32 others have submitted applications but are still pending certification due to incomplete documentation.
The EC has extended the deadline for these pending parties until November 26 to submit necessary documents to be eligible. Notable parties applying include the ‘People First Party,’ led by Prashant Singh, and ‘Ujyalo Party Nepal,’ which features six engineers and seven doctors among its central committee members.
