KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have announced in a joint statement that the party’s regular 15th General Convention has been postponed to be approved by the next meeting.

According to a statement issued by General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma today, the agenda of the regular general convention determined by the meeting of the Nepali Congress Central Executive Committee has been postponed to be approved by the next meeting.

After the date of the general convention was fixed, the renewal of active membership has reached the final stage and a total of 579,395 active memberships have been renewed, the statement states. During this period, 195,737 new active memberships have been recorded.

However, all levels of the party structure have been instructed to continue the work of new active membership entry.

General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma say that they are compelled to issue this statement to end such confusion and uncertainty over the regular general convention.

It was the primary option to address the demand for a special general convention, but since the regular general convention could not be held on time, the special general convention has emerged as an option.

Stating that it is the responsibility of the central office to address the demands related to the special general convention as per Article 17(2) of the party statute, General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma have stated that they will proceed with unanimous decisions, as far as possible.
