KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel said that digital transformation was indispensable for good governance, transparency and corruption control, thereby building prosperous Nepal.
Inaugurating the Nepal AI Dialogue Series, jointly organized by the National AI Centre under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Asian Development Bank here today, Minister Kharel expressed the confidence that the AI dialogue would be useful for AI Policy execution in the context when Nepal is advancing the initiative of developing ‘Digital Highway’.
“Today’s AI policy dialogue is not only the issue of policy formulation it is the symbol of possibility where technology, governance system and aspirations of new generation are found together,” Minister Kharel added.
He noted the Gen Z movement that emerged for anti-corruption and good governance was not just a protest but a clear declaration of values and principles.
Communications Minister Kharel stated that the foundation for digital transformation has already been laid with the adoption of Nepal’s AI policy and establishment of the National AI Center.
He said, “This is just the beginning; the real test is implementation. Its purpose is to transform it into services that impact employment, innovation, and every citizen’s life”.
Minister Kharel noted that AI is reshaping the global economy, healthcare, education, agriculture, and governance systems.
He further mentioned that AI provides an opportunity for Nepal to overcome obstacles such as geography, weak infrastructure, and limited resources.
Also speaking on the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, Radhika Aryal highlighted the relevance of the discussions to advance the country towards digital transformation by implementing the National AI Policy.
