KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has conferred authenticity on the Nepali Congress led by Gagan Kumar Thapa, newly elected President from the recent special general convention.
The EC meeting held on Friday decided to update the central working committee of NC led by Thapa, arguing that the special general convention of the Nepali Congress that elected new committee under Thapa’s leadership was legal and legitimate.
NC Vice President elected from the special general convention, Bishwo Prakash Sharma, informed that the EC’s decision came in their favour based on the law and procedure.
With this, NC’s election symbol ‘Tree’ and the flag bearing four stars would belong to the NC led by President Thapa.
The EC has informed that the bases for its decision were: provision of demanding special general convention by 40 percent of general convention representatives; mandatory provision to hold such convention in response to the demand; and absence of disagreement from anyone to the demand of special general convention.
However, the former Acting President of NC, Purna Bahadur Khadka, responded that the EC’s decision was unacceptable to them, so they would go to court.
