BARA: Two people were killed and three others injured in a late-night knife attack on a single household in Bara district, as police arrested another suspect and expanded their investigation.
The incident occurred before 2:00 AM on Wednesday in Rahariya Diha village, Ward 1 of Parwanipur Rural Municipality. The victims were identified as 52-year-old Sumitra Devi and her 32-year-old son, Rameshwar Mandal. Sumitra’s body was found near a toilet outside the house, while Rameshwar was found dead inside.
District Police said an unidentified individual entered the house and carried out an indiscriminate attack with a sharp weapon while eight family members were present. Sumitra’s husband, Jagruk Mandal; daughter, Kiran Devi; and daughter-in-law, Manita Devi, sustained injuries. Jagruk remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at LS Neuro Hospital in Parwanipur. Manita Devi suffered minor injuries.
Police have arrested Dharmendra Mahato in connection with the killings and are investigating his specific role. Earlier, Manita Devi was also detained for questioning. Authorities said further investigation into the motive and circumstances is ongoing.
