BARA: In the Parwanipur double homicide case in Bara involving members of the same family, police have arrested two individuals. The suspects are 27-year-old Dharmendra Mahato Dhanuk of Banjariya village, Ward 7 of Prasauni Rural Municipality, and 23-year-old Manita Devi Mandal of Rahariya Diha, Ward 1 of Parwanipur Rural Municipality.
According to Superintendent of Police Narendra Kunwar of the District Police Office, Bara, 46-year-old Sumitra Mandal and her 31-year-old son Ram Ishwar Mandal were murdered at around 2:00 AM on Wednesday. Police said the suspects entered the house of 50-year-old Jagrup Mandal to carry out the attack. Both victims died on the spot after sustaining stab wounds to the neck.
Two other family members, Jagrup Mandal and his 21-year-old daughter, Rina Kumari, were injured in the attack and are currently receiving treatment at LS Neuro Hospital.
Superintendent Kunwar said both suspects were arrested in Masharwa village, Ward 4 of Bishrampur Rural Municipality, while attempting to flee toward India. Dharmendra, who had been working in Dubai, returned to Nepal on January 25. After his return, he remained in regular contact with Manita Devi.
The preliminary investigation of the police revealed that Manita Devi, the daughter-in-law of Sumitra Mandal and wife of Ram Ishwar Mandal (deceased), was in an extramarital relationship with Dharmendra.
Kunwar said the murder plan appears to have been formed after the family discovered the affair. Dharmendra returned to Nepal after Manita informed him about escalating disputes at home. According to police, no one in the village except Manita knew about his return.
After arriving in Nepal, Dharmendra and Manita maintained close contact, coordinated the plan, and carried out the murders at an opportune time, Superintendent Kunwar said.
