KATHMANDU: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nepal, in collaboration with the Ministry of Forests and Environment, conducted a three-day Climate Change Negotiations Training for government officials.

The training brought together officials representing more than 10 ministries and government agencies, aiming to strengthen Nepal’s institutional capacity to engage in international climate negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

According to organizers, the programme focused on improving participants’ understanding of UNFCCC processes, enhancing inter-ministerial coordination, promoting knowledge sharing, and building practical negotiation skills applicable to real-world climate diplomacy.

A central feature of the training was a hands-on negotiation exercise addressing human mobility in the context of climate change, including issues related to displacement, planned relocation, and migration. The exercise was designed to help officials better integrate climate mobility concerns into national positions and international negotiations.

The programme was supported by the IOM Development Fund and forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Nepal’s preparedness and coordination on climate change and migration-related challenges.
