KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has held a discussion with the state-run media and related bodies on the need of prioritizing election-related news- voters’ education, mass media monitoring, dissemination of factual news and EC’s activities.
With only a month left to go for voting, the EC, on Monday, also demanded a collaboration plan from the State-run media to hold the House of Representatives election in a free, fair and calm atmosphere.
Joint Secretary and Chief of the Management Division at EC, Rajendra Kumar KC, informed that the state-run media could play a vital role in creating a favorable atmosphere for holding HoR election successfully.
On the occasion, General Manager at RSS, Sandip Rai, informed that RSS has been disseminating news round-the-clock to it’s over 600 subscribers. In addition to the news, features, opinion and interviews were disseminated by RSS, giving utmost priority to election at present.
Even an election desk was established by RSS for smooth news coverage on election and EC’s activities, he added.
Other representatives from the State-run media also shared their activities and services before EC.
Meanwhile, EC has sought clarifications from various political parties and candidates for violation of election code of conduct.
