USA: An avalanche in California’s Lake Tahoe backcountry near Truckee has left 10 skiers missing and six others stranded, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.

The 16-member group, comprising four guides and 12 clients, was caught near Castle Peak around 11:30 A.M. PST.

At least six survivors remain at the site awaiting evacuation as 46 responders, including specialized ski teams and snow vehicles, attempt access.

Authorities warn of continued avalanche danger amid heavy snowfall and storm conditions. Nearby resorts have closed, and major highways, including Interstate 80 and Highway 50, remain shut.
