KABUL: Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities announced the release of three Pakistani soldiers captured during border clashes in October, citing mediation efforts by Saudi Arabia.

The handover in Kabul follows the deadliest cross-border fighting since the Taliban regained power in 2021, which left dozens dead and strained diplomatic ties.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the move reflects Kabul’s commitment to constructive international relations and coincides with the approach of Ramadan.

Border tensions have led to repeated crossing closures along the 2,600-kilometer frontier, disrupting trade, while Pakistan continues to allege militant safe havens inside Afghanistan, claims Kabul rejects.
