KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been registered at the Patan High Court demanding a halt to the screening of the film Rammita Koo Pirati. Court Information Officer Parbati Hitan confirmed that the petition was filed on Friday.
The case was lodged by advocates Srishti Bhatta and Laxmi Tamang of Tarakeshwar, seeking an interim order, including an injunction, to stop the film’s exhibition.
The petition names the Film Development Board, production company Shiro Films, Executive Producer Annapurna Sharma (Anna Sharma), Writer Sudipta Adhikari, and Producer Sagar Lamsal as defendants. The petitioners argue that the film promotes hostility toward men, presents a gender-discriminatory narrative, and negatively affects social harmony.
They have also alleged that the Film Development Board permitted production of the film despite concerns related to public decency and morality and that the censor authority cleared it for screening without adequate review of its content.
The film, which features Sharma in the lead role, is currently being screened in theaters. The court is expected to schedule a hearing on the matter.
