KATHMANDU: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sushila Karki today.

On the occasion, the two leaders exchanged views on various aspects of Nepal-China relations.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, PM Karki congratulated Ambassador Zhang and extended best wishes for the success of his tenure.

She expressed confidence that he would efficiently discharge his responsibilities and play a key role in further elevating the friendly ties between the two countries.

Ambassador Zhang congratulated Prime Minister Karki for ensuring peace, security and the rule of law in the country, which has guaranteed elections in a peaceful environment.

He also affirmed China’s continued support and cooperation in this process.

Prime Minister Karki expressed gratitude to China for its goodwill and assistance in Nepal’s democratic process, particularly the elections.

On behalf of the government and people of Nepal, she also thanked China for its support and partnership opportunities in various development projects.

Both the Prime Minister and the Chinese Ambassador exchanged greetings on the occasion of Chinese New Year, which is celebrated by the people of both countries.

Highlighting the deep bonds of culture, geography and historical relations between the two nations, Prime Minister Karki reaffirmed that Nepal remains firmly committed to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence (Panchsheel), adheres to the One China policy, and will never allow any activities on its soil that harm the interests of its close neighbour.

She stressed that instability in one country can affect the other, and therefore called for further strengthening mutual cooperation to ensure regional peace and stability.

The Chinese Ambassador conveyed heartfelt gratitude from the Chinese people and the President to the Government of Nepal for its policy and firm stance.
