Newly elected National Assembly members to take oath today

KATHMANDU: Newly elected members of the National Assembly of Nepal are scheduled to take the oath of office today. According to Padma Prasad Pandey, Secretary-General of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the oath-taking ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM at the hall of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee in Singha Durbar.

Elections for the 18 seats that were becoming vacant in the National Assembly were held on January 24 (Magh 11). As per the secretariat, the oath will be administered by National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal in accordance with Article 86 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. Members attending the ceremony must appear in attire reflecting their identity and bring the National Assembly membership certificate issued by the Election Commission of Nepal along with a copy of their citizenship certificate.

Those wishing to take the oath in their mother tongue instead of Nepali must provide a translated version of the oath text in their respective language as required by law.

According to the Election Commission, those elected in the January 24 National Assembly elections include Roshni Meche, Somnath Portel and Sunil Bahadur Thapa from Koshi Province; Rekha Kumari Jha, Dharmendra Paswan, Ranjit Karna and Mahanta Thakur from Madhesh Province; Geeta Devkota and Prem Prasad Dangol from Bagmati Province; Jagat Timilsina and Samjhana Devkota from Gandaki Province; Ram Kumari Jhankri, Chandra Bahadur KC and Basudev Ghimire from Lumbini Province; Meena Singh Rakhal and Lalit Jung Shahi from Karnali Province; and Leela Kumari Bhandari and Khamma Bahadur Khati from Sudurpashchim Province.
