KATHMANDU: Nepal Oil Corporation will begin selling half-filled LPG cylinders from Thursday until further notice.
The corporation said the temporary measure has been introduced to streamline the supply and distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and to ensure that cooking gas remains available to consumers amid rising demand.
Under the new arrangement, each cylinder will contain 7.1 kilograms of LPG-half of the standard quantity-and will be sold at a price of Rs955 per cylinder, equivalent to half the regular price.
The decision will take effect from Thursday and remain in force until another notice is issued.
Nepal Oil Corporation said the move is intended to better manage supply and make gas available to a larger number of households during the current period of high demand.
Although the corporation says it has been importing and distributing LPG according to regular demand, consumption in the Kathmandu Valley has surged over the past two to three months, prompting the temporary shift to half-cylinder distribution.
