KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party has begun formal internal consultations to form a new government after emerging as the largest force in Parliament with a decisive 182-seat majority in the March 05 general elections.

In their first high-level meeting since the election results, party president Rabi Lamichhane, senior leader Balen Shah, and vice-presidents DP Aryal and Swarnim Wagle met at a hotel in Kathmandu on Thursday afternoon to deliberate on the structure and priorities of the incoming administration.

The meeting, which lasted around one and a half hours, focused on reviewing the party’s electoral performance and shaping a roadmap for government formation, with particular emphasis on governance reforms and policy direction. Leaders also discussed sensitive internal matters, including the size and composition of the Cabinet, the management of ministerial contenders, and the agenda for the first meeting of the Council of Ministers.

A senior party leader described the discussions as “intensive and forward-looking,” adding that the leadership had agreed to hold regular meetings in the coming days to finalize the government’s framework and ensure a coordinated transition into power.

The political momentum comes on the same day the Election Commission Nepal formally completed the post-election process by distributing certificates to 110 proportional representation lawmakers and submitting the final report of the general elections to President Ram Chandra Paudel.

With the report now submitted, the constitutional pathway for government formation has been activated. Under Article 76(1) of Nepal’s Constitution, the President is expected to invite the formation of a majority government. With a clear parliamentary majority, the RSP is positioned to lead the next administration, marking a significant shift in Nepal’s political landscape.
