KATHMANDU: Kamal Thapa, a former minister and senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, has objected to the arrest of former prime minister KP Sharma Oli and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak, accusing the government of pursuing a path of revenge and bias.
In a statement posted on social media, Thapa said the Balen Shah-led government appears to be moving toward prohibition, revenge, and prejudiced politics rather than focusing on its stated goals of good governance and economic prosperity.
He stressed that conflict and confrontation should not be a priority at the current time, urging restraint and adherence to democratic norms.
“Despite being formed with the objective of good governance and economic prosperity, the government seems to be heading toward prohibition, retaliation, and bias,” Thapa wrote. “At present, conflict and confrontation should not be anyone’s priority. In fact, the rule of law, mutual reconciliation, and unity are the first conditions for good governance and prosperity.”
