Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel declares Rs 234 million in net assets

KATHMANDU: Sasmit Pokharel, the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, has declared a net worth of Rs 234.127 million, according to asset details made public by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The disclosure shows that Pokharel’s total assets amount to Rs 241.627 million, including inherited property, while liabilities-loans and borrowings-stand at Rs 7.5 million.

A significant portion of the assets is held jointly with family members. Properties worth around Rs 40–50 million in Kathmandu are registered in the names of her father, Ramesh Kumar Pokharel, and mother, Minakshi Ojha Pokharel. The disclosure notes that these assets were accumulated through her father’s earnings during his tenure at Nepal Rastra Bank as well as ancestral property.

Additional landholdings-jointly owned with parents and through inheritance—are located in Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Godawari (Lalitpur), and Gokarneshwar, with a combined estimated value of around Rs 115 million.

Pokharel has also declared 25 tolas of gold and 100 tolas of silver. His cash deposits total approximately Rs 450,000, held in Sanima Bank and NIC Asia Bank.

The minister further reported investments in shares of various companies and ownership of two vehicles.
