KATHMANDU: “Dear Nepali brothers and sisters,”
We have arrived in the New Year 2083 BS. On this sacred occasion marking the beginning of the New Year, I extend my best wishes for happiness and peace to all Nepalis living within the country and across different parts of the world.
With the passage of time, we must continue to move our nation and society forward on the path of progress. By correcting the shortcomings, weaknesses, and mistakes of the past, and by overcoming obstacles and challenges, we must advance toward our highest destination. Only then will the newness of the New Year hold true meaning.
In recent years, there has been a general sentiment among Nepalis that, from the perspective of desired development, the country has continued to decline further and further. We have witnessed significant changes in politics, the state system, and the administrative structure. However, these changes have been merely superficial. We ran a lot within the turmoil of instability, yet we have fallen far behind in the prosperity of the nation. We remained constantly engaged in experiments, practices, and the search for alternatives. As a result, our country has remained merely a laboratory.
Stability, continuity, and firmness seem to have been lost somewhere. The past has taught us that merely changing methods, systems, and individuals does not transform the overall situation. It is encouraging to see increasing participation of the younger generation in politics and state affairs. We believe that the involvement of educated, informed, and technologically skilled and enthusiastic individuals will contribute positively to nation-building.
Stability, continuity, and firmness seem to have been lost somewhere. The past has taught us that merely changing methods, systems, and individuals does not transform the overall situation
Today, our country is surrounded by a multitude of problems. At the same time, the hopes and aspirations of the Nepali people are equally high. In this situation, our focus must be on how to uplift our economic condition and how to strengthen cooperation and goodwill with neighboring countries and external friendly powers. From the perspective of internal security, the nation is in a very fragile condition. In the New Year, it is essential to ensure the protection of life and property, the safeguarding of essential goods and resources, and the guarantee of human security rights necessary for living. It is necessary to strengthen internal security mechanisms concerning our service sectors, natural and seasonal disasters. In today’s difficult and turbulent world, the state must pay serious attention to protecting itself, ensuring the availability of produced goods, and preventing any kind of disruption.
No citizen should have to experience fear, suffering, or deprivation in matters of physical, mental, material, or daily living. In every sector, we must become reliable and self-reliant, protecting the nation from dependency and preserving its independence from subjugation. The nation’s resources are its strength; only through their proper utilization can societal welfare be achieved. Likewise, the preservation and promotion of the country’s inherent values, culture, and original artistic heritage enhance national pride. Therefore, we must now move forward toward these fundamental duties and responsibilities.
Prohibition, division, shutdowns, and rebellion weaken us. Mutual hatred, enmity, revenge, and exclusion should not exist in politics. Let us not delay in taking steps with the nation at the center, while also respecting the will of the people. Let us remain firmly committed to seeking constitutional solutions that address the demands of all sides through dialogue, consensus, and cooperation.
May Nepal become a land of peace. May it become a nation of progress. May it be guided and recognized by its own original traditions and identity. May all Nepalis attain justice, peace, and happiness. This is our earnest wish.
May Lord Pashupatinath bless everyone.
Jai Nepal
