KATHMANDU: As the government moves forward with plans to clear squatter settlements along riverbanks in the Kathmandu Valley, affected residents have taken to protest. On Friday, groups of landless settlers reached the office of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), demanding that the decision to deploy bulldozers be halted.

Anticipating possible tensions, authorities have deployed a heavy security presence around the party office and tightened safety measures in the area. Following government directives, police had already begun making public announcements in affected areas from Thursday evening.

Residents have been given a deadline until Friday evening to vacate their settlements. Officials have stated that announcements will continue throughout the day, with preparations underway to begin bulldozer operations early Saturday morning. Photo: Nepal Photo Library
