KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel is set to hold consultations today with constitutional experts regarding the ordinances recommended by the government after suspending Parliament.

According to the President’s Office, Paudel has invited constitutional scholars to Sheetal Niwas at 4 pm for discussions on the matter.

The government had, on April 27 and 28, recommended six ordinances for presidential approval. These include amendments to the Constitutional Council Act, the Cooperative Act, an ordinance related to health science institutions, an ordinance to amend some Nepal laws, a public office-bearer removal ordinance, and an ordinance related to universities.

The move has sparked criticism after the government presented the ordinances for approval immediately after calling and then adjourning a meeting of the Federal Parliament.

Opposition parties have also voiced strong objections, accusing the government of bypassing parliamentary procedures.
