KATHMANDU: Former Minister Sudan Kirati has joined the Shram Sanskriti Party led by Harka Sampang.

Under an agreement reached on Thursday, Kirati will be given the role of senior leader in the party.

The formal announcement is scheduled to be made today. A press conference has been organized for 3 pm at Hardik Hotel in Bagbazar, Kathmandu.

Sudan Kirati, who hails from Bhojpur, is a former Maoist leader and had also served as tourism minister. However, after the Gen Z movement and the subsequent unification of parties led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal to form the Nepali Communist Party, Kirati distanced himself from the merger and joined the Pragatasheel Loktantrik Party (PLP).

In PLP — a party launched on the initiative of former Maoist Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma — Kirati served as a member of its five-member presidential council.
