JANAKPURDHAM: Cases have been registered against 62 entrepreneurs of Madhesh province for allegedly manufacturing and selling sub-standard edible items.

The Food Technology and Quality Control Office has informed that after issues were found in the food samples collected and tested in fiscal year 2025/26, cases were filed in the respective district courts and district administration offices under the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2024.

According to the office chief, Bimal Kumar Dahal, cases were filed against 51 business people in Bara and Parsa, seven in Mahottari, three in Sarlahi and Rautahat, and one in Dhanusha.

He further said proceedings are also underway to file cases against five more business people, three in Saptari and Siraha, and two in Dhanusha, for not maintaining food hygiene and adulteration of food products.

Chief Dahal stated that during monitoring, the testing of collected samples found harmful adulteration, expired food items being sold, and violations of quality standards, which led to initiating legal action.

In fiscal year 2025/26, a total of 4,559 food samples were collected from the districts in Madhesh province by law, upon producers’ requests, and from government agencies.
