CHITWAN: The number of people who fell ill due to suspected food poisoning after attending a wedding feast at a party venue in Bharatpur has reached 93, with 50 currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

The incident occurred after guests attended a wedding banquet held at Chautari Party Palace in Dharmachok, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-4, on May 6.

According to District Police Office Chitwan Chief Superintendent of Police Govinda Puri, people who consumed food at the event gradually began showing symptoms of illness.

Patients are receiving treatment at Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan Medical College, and College of Medical Sciences. Some patients are also being treated in hospitals in Kathmandu, including Civil Service Hospital and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

“Out of the 93 people who fell ill, 50 are still under treatment. Two patients who were admitted to the intensive care unit have shown improvement and have been shifted to the general ward. All patients are currently out of danger,” Superintendent Puri said.

Following the incident, police have detained two individuals associated with the party palace. The Food Technology and Quality Control Division Office has launched an investigation into the case.

Division Office Chief Pramod Chandra Paudel said doctors had verbally indicated that contaminated food was the likely cause of the illnesses, while further investigation is underway.

Patients reportedly experienced symptoms including high blood pressure, severe fever, and diarrhea.
