KATHMANDU: Representatives of Nepal’s Badi community have demanded a halt to the screening of the Nepali film Lalibazar, alleging that it defames and misrepresents their community.

Earlier, Roshani Nepali filed a writ petition in court objecting to certain scenes and dialogues in the movie. She argued that the use of the term “Badi” in the film insulted the community and hurt its sentiments.

Following the petition, the Patan High Court had issued an interim order temporarily halting the film’s screening. However, on May 5, the court later cleared the way for the movie’s release.

Despite the court’s decision and the film’s release, representatives of the Badi community have continued protests, claiming the film damages the dignity and character of their community.
