KATHMANDU: Harka Raj Rai (Harka Sampang), chair of the Shram Sanskriti Party and a member of the House of Representatives, has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Balen Shah, accusing him of acting irresponsibly in parliamentary practice and disrespecting Parliament.
In a statement issued on Friday, Rai alleged that Prime Minister Shah walked out of the House while President Ram Chandra Paudel was presenting the government’s policies and programmes on May 11.
He also claimed that the prime minister was absent during parliamentary discussions on May 13, despite reportedly watching the proceedings live from a nearby office, failed to return to Parliament to respond.
Rai described these actions as a disregard for parliamentary tradition and called them “a black stain in the history of parliamentary practice.”
“On what moral grounds is a prime minister elected through the same Parliament continuing to remain in office after insulting the sovereign House of the people?” the statement asked. “Anyone unable to fulfill their responsibilities should resign on moral grounds and pave the way forward.”
The lawmaker also accused the government of attempting to bypass Parliament through ordinances and failing to fulfill even its minimum responsibilities.
