BIRGUNJ: Police arrested medical entrepreneur and political activist Durga Prasai from a hotel in Birgunj on Monday evening.
Authorities have not disclosed the charges against him.
Prasai had arrived in Birgunj earlier in the day via Simara Airport to attend a scheduled program.
At the airport, he spoke to reporters and criticized the current government led by Balen Shah.
Prasai is a controversial medical entrepreneur and pro-monarchy activist known for leading campaigns calling for the restoration of the monarchy and changes to Nepal’s political system.
He is also the founder of B&C Medical College and Hospital in Jhapa and has faced financial and legal controversies over loan defaults and political statements.
He has been arrested multiple times in recent years in connection with protests, public remarks, and alleged public order violations, though courts have released him on bail or other conditions in several cases.
Police said further details about the Birgunj arrest will be made public later.
