JHAPA: The remains of the Buddha Air aircraft with call sign ‘901’, which skidded off the runway and crashed at Chandragadhi Airport, will be removed within the next 10 days.

The crash occurred four months ago due to high speed during landing. On the night of January 2, 2026, the Buddha Air aircraft arriving from Kathmandu skidded off the western edge of the runway at Chandragadhi Airport and plunged into a gorge. Out of the 51 people on board, including the crew members, seven were injured. Following the crash, the remains of the aircraft had been kept at the accident site, covered with a tarpaulin.

Complaints had been rising as seeing the crashed aircraft right next to the runway increased psychological fear and discomfort among flying passengers.

According to Kishor Kumar Khatri, chief of the Chandragadhi Airport Office, the aircraft’s remains had to be kept at the crash site for a long time due to the technical investigation of the accident and the evaluation process of the insurance company. “The accident investigation committee and the insurance company have completed all necessary investigations,” Chief Khatri said. “Therefore, preparations are underway to completely remove all remains of the aircraft within the next 10 days.”

In accordance with the approved aircraft removal process, the work of erasing the name ‘Buddha Air’, the logo, and other identifying marks from the fuselage of the crashed aircraft has already been completed. “Right now, there are no letters or symbols reading Buddha Air left on the aircraft’s body; only the shape of the plane is visible,” Airport Chief Khatri added. “The insurance company itself will completely manage and clear these remains within the next 10 days.”
