Two die after eating wild mushrooms in Palpa

KATHMANDU: Two women have died after consuming wild mushrooms in Rambha Rural Municipality-5, Phalkun, in Palpa district.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhimlal Bhattarai from the District Police Office, 66-year-old Binimaya Kamu Magar and 35-year-old Bal Kumari Khamcha, both residents of Phalkun, died after eating mushrooms collected from a nearby forest.

Police said the women had cooked and eaten the mushrooms along with another person after gathering them from the forest last Friday. They began suffering from vomiting and diarrhea on Saturday morning and were taken to United Mission Hospital Tansen for treatment.

“Binimaya died during treatment on Monday, while Bal Kumari died on Tuesday,” DSP Bhattarai said.

Another woman, 50-year-old Yam Maya Jargha Magar, is still undergoing treatment, and her condition is reported to be critical.

Police also stated that 12 other people in Tansen, Nisdi, and Mathagadhi areas of Palpa have fallen ill after consuming poisonous mushrooms.

The District Police Office made the information public only today.
